Thank you for sharing information about the "new anti-homeless weaponized music/surveillance trailer to streamline routine encampment sweeps." I first heard about it on an a Reddit post. Makes me feel even worse knowing this is how the City's "leadership" thinks this is a fine way to treat people. Dovetailing with Candy's recent mailer - which as a resident of District 2 I can say I was not on her list of recipients, idk maybe she knows there's no chance I'll vote for her - but her continued insistence that she helps Worcester's senior citizens is another half-truth. Many of our unhoused neighbors are seniors, and she clearly gives not one fuck about them.
It's so disheartening knowing people like her have all the opportunity in the world yet their instinct is cruelty.
The fact she’s willing to take credit for the work off program (literally just in state law) knowing only like 16 seniors have signed up, knowing it’s minimum wage for a full month of work and it only takes off 2k when most bills are 5k plus…. It’s disgusting
I have a question re: the Plumley Village acquistion: How and why are non-profit companies involved in public housing? And I saw mention of Trinity Financial re: the redevelopment of the Curtis Apartments. Again: how and why are they involved? Just seeking to understand.
Yeah i included it for the same reason. Turns out Plumley was handed over to a non-profit in '94 (of course) and has stayed that way since. Also: the WHA has a non-profit attached to it and candy's husband is chair of both the WHA and the non-profit lol it's called ummm.... i'd have to look it up. The more general trend this is all bound up in is the shift post-Reagan from an actual public housing system to a "voucher" system. Can't recommend Abolish Rent enough if you haven't read it. Great overview of how we got here
First: great section on the LVT trailer and our current surveillance society. That's the comment related to the substance.
Second, so with Steve Reich you're talking about Minimalism (I believe that's the category of this modern musical style/genre/movement) and the head Minimalist is Philip Glass. Either you love this stuff (me) or you don't. (Brian Eno is related tangentially as Minimalist stuff often intersects with Ambient music also.) (I want to say Terry Riley also). (I like to listen to Echoes https://echoes.org/). Pat Metheny did a great Steve Reich album ("Two Trains?"). And Kronos Quartet records a lot of his stuff also.
The algo feed is absolutely the worst and I hate it. It marks me as an official old. Twitter and Bluesky still let me scroll in chronological order, but the Zuck's apps? I'm just waiting for him to scramble WhatsApp so I can't make sense of my messages. Instagram is absolutely the worst and it has local businesses I like all over it. Love to find out about the event at a place I like last weekend on Tuesday. Thanks Insta!
You can switch IG to chronological by clicking on the logo on the top left and changing to “Following”, but it doesn’t stay like that — you have to do it every time you open the app.
The new CM-C mailer is an alternative to attacking your enemies with black spray paint. She succeeds in suggesting that being a "nice guy" is an undesirable quality. We need less of them. I'd love to see the mailers her campaign chose NOT to run.
I remain concerned with the WPD's recent request (thru Toomey) to prepare a report concerning the feasibility of creating a Drones as First Responders (DFR) Program (See 09/30 Council agenda item 11m). I took the allotted 2:00 minutes to encourage the council to move cautiously on this item as the public should be assured that the folks using the technology are worthy of the public's trust.
When the item came to the floor both Councilor Toomey and Councilor Bergman, 2/3 majority of the Public Safety Committee, spoke in support of the item as if they were on a sales call on behalf of the WPD. No Civilian Review Board and a rubber stamp from the Public Safety Committee. This is not good government!
Again, the issue is not necessarily the technology but the integrity of the people behind it. At one point during the council meeting Councilor Bergman related a story of how a drone was employed to carry a life preserver to a drowning child. Well, we wouldn't that to happen on our watch! Who votes for this moron?
I'd like to have more confidence in the WPD. Chief Saucier appears to be a capable leader. But when a high-ranking police officer continues to publicly carry out a personal vendetta against a much-loved district councilor, I question whether the WPD is deserving of the public trust.

Its strange because I live in D1 and got one of Candy's mailers. Just the most recent one though.

Two trains is the beeest. You know i've never checked out philip glass for real and thats a damn shame. Fixing that today thank you !

Off my soapbox, Bill. Keep it up.
