I was absolutely crushed by Nelly Medina's loss. I stood out with her sign, all alone, at Broad Meadow Brook from noon to five. Well I brought a chair, so I sat some. When I returned to my car to go home, I discovered that my legs weren't working. I had spent the day surrounded by the teamsters, who not only were holding Kathy Roy signs but talked without stop about the good old days when teachers and principals were allowed to thrash their students at will. One of them wished they would do the same to his autistic son. PTSD over here. But I'm an issues guy, and will be making moves that the government can't influence or stop. No matter who is controlling policy, the issues remain the same and the work is always hard. No system, particularly a well oiled machine like the Worcester Machine, can be changed from the inside. But we do have it surrounded. Maybe next time we can bring poll dancers?
It sucks, Teamsters rule but our local leadership is really politically regressive. More than once I’ve heard it excused as “well, what can you expect with that kind of blue collar rough-and-tumble membership” but that’s bullshit. I represent custodians, DPW workers, etc. and that shit absolutely does not fly in our union because top to bottom it just isn’t allowed to. Being a working class laborer does not mean your destiny is to be a regressive bigot, nor does it excuse you being one.
You know, I didn’t even connect this until you said that but I had a real scary funhouse experience in Old Orchard Beach when I was little, and mirrors were involved
Please don't let approximately 10% of registered voters chase you guys out of town. Plan E primarily serves the Worcester business community. In retrospect, Jose Rivera made it look easy. Charter Reform!
Page 3A of Thursday's T&G includes a photo of Eric Torkornoo congratulating Rivera. Don't know much about Mr. Torkornoo but, respectfully, I did find some of his connections. Fidelity Bank, Worcester Chamber of Commerce and Greater Worcester Community Foundation. No identifiable connection to D5. It appears he resides in D3. Maybe he was saying goodbye to Rivera as he was leaving for the John Fresolo party. Here, the obvious contradicts any suggestion of transparency or accountability.
Fortunately, the emotional tornado of Tuesday night is receding and I'm adjusting to what will be. My comments as follows:
Roy continues to bring the Trump Administration to Worcester's doorstep and into the lives of school children. And it appears Binienda's continued hissy fit has fully drawn Roy into her sphere of influence. Sue Mailman remains stalwart and worthy of the abundance of support she commands.
King, Ojeda and Rosen may form an alliance that benefits Worcester. Don't sleep on Mitra. He may not enjoy being just a tool for the business establishment and the tedium of long nights in the council chamber commencing with folks berating him in 2-minute bursts at the microphone. "How's that poor farm shit going, Doctor?"
No surprise with Petty and Toomey. But Khrystian creeps closer in vote totals.
Tony and Jose will be busy outdoing each other in doing nothing or simply stonewalling progressive ideas. And they'll join Kate Toomey in protecting landlords and denying the Fire Chief's interest in protecting the public. All supporting WPD 100% at every turn.
Rob Bilotta has triumphed! The D2 people's champion. He will get at it.
So glad Jermoh Kamara has demanded a recount. Even without a reversal, it will keep the focus on how that unmentionable nitwit won by 23 votes.
Lastly, voters want Clark to tell their donor class that Worcester wants some of that cheddah. Our next comedian.....
Bill - Please continue to deliver stories like Heather's. I'm glad to hear about the high readership for this item. I hope it rises to the level of the Globe Spotlight series on people protecting their own. And Worcester is chock full of stories like this that need to be told. If Heather or her supporters want to organize protests naming those that stayed quiet, I'll be there. I suggest 455 Main Street before School Committee meetings.
