John Cashman (father of mine👑) has Met-ALD– liver disease caused by metabolic issues exacerbated by alcoholism. He had his first drink ~age 9 and it was of beer him and his friends had hidden and kept cold by storing in the pond at Bell Hill. We are very open about talking about his alcoholism because it's a problem so many people have and we are living through the inevitable conclusion and shame helps no one. Many people dont know they have liver disease until they are already in liver failure! He has been sober since October (thank you Vivitrol) and his hospital requires he be enrolled in relapse prevention as a rule for his transplant.

If you or anyone you love is struggling with AUD, ask your doctor about Vivitrol. It is a 1x a month butt-cheek injection to reduce cravings & has been a LIFE SAVER for my dad & my best friend.

The second I mentioned it I regretted mentioning it, but thank you for clarifying/explaining. I only say that because it's my strong belief that no one "deserves" a diseased body, or that there's people worth saving vs. not.

I've read a lot about science-based approaches to addiction for reasons, and it's crazy that they've been using approaches like Vivitrol and naltrexone in other countries for decades, whereas in the US we made people white-knuckle it or gave them fucking Antabuse, which can literally kill you.

Everything in Worcester is 20 minutes from everywhere else and it always will be.

To misquote "O Brother Where Art Thou": "Ain't this place a geographical oddity...20 minutes from everywhere!"
